The Austin layout, one of the most complete and demanding on the calendar, features a combination of long straights, heavy braking zones, fast direction changes and tight hairpins, representing a significant challenge for both riders on their debut at the venue.

Track action began with both Veda Ega Pratama and Zen Mitani focusing on data acquisition, track familiarisation and set-up adaptation during Friday’s free practice sessions. The morning was dedicated to understanding the circuit’s characteristics, including elevation changes and sector-specific demands, while in the afternoon both riders improved their pace and consistency.

Pratama made a significant step forward, securing P14 and the final direct access to Q2, placing himself in a competitive position ahead of qualifying. Mitani, continuing his adaptation process, concluded the day in P22.

Saturday confirmed a positive progression for Honda Team Asia, with both riders advancing to Q2 after a solid and structured qualifying performance. On a technically demanding circuit such as COTA, both rookies demonstrated clear improvement in pace, consistency and overall performance.

Pratama confirmed his competitiveness at the front, maintaining a strong pace throughout Q2 and consistently running within the leading group. He ultimately secured P4 on the grid, narrowly missing out on the front row after remaining in contention for pole position until the closing stages of the session.

Mitani delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, finishing P2 in Q1 and securing progression to Q2. In the final session, he maintained a consistent rhythm and achieved P12, marking his best qualifying result of the season and securing a fourth-row start for the race.

The race day did not go as expected following the promising signs of the previous days: both riders were forced to retire. Veda Pratama once again demonstrated his potential, recovering well after the opening laps and beginning to close the gap to the leading group. However, while battling for top positions, the Indonesian rookie crashed out on lap five, bringing an early end to what could have been another standout performance.

Zen Mitani delivered arguably his strongest race of the season so far, consistently fighting within the group contesting the top 10 and appearing on course to score his first World Championship points. Unfortunately, a mistake on the final lap also brought his race to a premature conclusion.Despite the disappointing outcome, the weekend once again highlighted clear progress from both young riders.

With a three-week break before the next round in Jerez, Honda Team Asia will use this time to reset and return stronger for the European phase of the Championship.

MOTO3: VEDA EGA PRATAMA #9
Grid P4-Race DNF

It was a tough race for me today because from the beginning there were a lot of aggressive battles in the group, and it was not easy to manage everything. But after that I started to feel better, I found my rhythm and I was able to overtake some riders and begin catching the front group. At that moment I had a really good feeling on the bike and I felt confident that I could stay there and fight.

Unfortunately, I made a mistake and that ended my race. I went a little bit wide and then opened the throttle too aggressively while still leaning, and I lost the bike. Of course I’m disappointed, because I think today we had a good opportunity, but this is also part of learning and gaining experience. I will take this as an important lesson and come back stronger in Jerez.

MOTO3: ZEN MITANI #32
Grid P12- Race DNF

Today was actually a positive race for me for most of the laps. I was able to stay with the second group and fight with the other riders, and honestly I didn’t feel too far from them. That is something important for me because it shows that we are making progress and that I can be there fighting in the points battle.

In the end, I made a mistake on the last lap and couldn’t finish the race, which is really frustrating because we had a good chance today. I also didn’t feel completely confident in some areas, especially under braking, so there are still things to understand and improve. But I want to thank my team because they did a great job all weekend. Now we know we can be closer, and I want to keep building from this and arrive stronger in Jerez

HIROSHI AOYAMA – Team Manager

It was a very disappointing end to the race because both riders had the potential to achieve a strong result today. Veda was fighting close to the front group and had the pace to stay in the battle for the top positions. He lost a bit of ground at the beginning, but he was recovering well and catching up again before making a small mistake that caused the crash. It is a pity because he had the speed and the confidence to do a very good race once again.

Zen also showed a very positive performance today. He was fighting in the group for P6 to P12 and had a real chance to score his first points of the season. Unfortunately, on the last lap, a mistake ended his race too, which is very frustrating after all the good work he had done. In any case, both riders can learn from today, and that is also part of their development. Now we have a small break before Jerez, so we will use that time to recover our energy and come back stronger. I also want to thank all the team staff for their hard work during these last two race weekends.

MIVV PRODUCTS FOR YOUR BIKE

Mivv silencers have been designed for a recreational use of the motorbike.
